my jolly sailor bold,
Before the curse was broken, Attina had dreams of a pirate ship, a pirate captain, sailing the seas. She had dreams of love, and in these dreams she was always happy. The morning would come, she would smile and brush them off as idle fantasies, and go about her life. With the curse broken, however, these dreams became nightmares. She would hear his voice haunting her. "The sea was a much safer place for you my little mermaid." he would sneer at her. No longer did she have dreams of love and sailing the seven seas. She had reoccurring nightmares of being kidnapped, tricked, lied to, threatened, and thrown back to see. She had nightmares of her own broken heart.
When she could remember nothing of herself, she remembered the love she had for Killian Jones. This left Attina feeling hopeless and pathetic and a moderate amount of annoyance. She felt guilty for not thinking of her family or her life as a mermaid, only about her time on the captain's ship. This guilt was what drove her to finding her siblings as soon as the curse broke, resuming her role as the eldest sister, going back to her life before him.
These choices, however, couldn't distract Attina from the fact that what she had experienced with Captain Hook had changed who she was as a person. She had tasted love that should have been forbidden to her, and still she wanted more. That craving left Attina desperate enough to find herself at the docks, the only place she could figure a man like Killian Jones could end up.
If she were being honest with herself instead of letting her stubbornness take reign over her actions, she'd know this was a bad idea. It was just past dusk, the sun fading quickly to leave the air crisp and the night dark. She didn't even honestly know what she would do or say if she ran into him, but she wanted answers more than anything. Why would he do this to her? What did she do wrong? How could he have threatened her, after everything just a night before? It was all too much, and it made her equal parts sad and angry.
She just had to know if the rumors were true. About a year prior, she started hearing his name again. She started hearing that he was here too. There were tales of a Cora and his relationship with the savior and Attina had never been one for gossip so she avoided it entirely until after the events of a second curse and him coming back and a place called Neverland just became too much. There were too many people saying his name. There were too many reminders of the questions that begged to be answered in the back of her mind. Even if she didn't see him tonight, she wanted to know he if he was truly here. She wanted to see if she could find the one thing that would tell her that it was definitely the same pirate she had once fallen so stupidly in love with. She had to see his ship.
Her little shoes made soft clicks against the wood of the docks as she walked row by row, weaving her way to see every ship on the off chance his was hidden somewhere. Her heart was racing and she held her thin body with her arms, trying to work on her little mission in secret. Around the third row, she was already feeling ridiculous. She was seeking out a man who, the last time she saw him, threatened her life if she didn't leave immediately. She was looking for some proof of him being there as if she were a love sick puppy dog, trailing him in secret. She felt pathetic for caring about him all over again, which made her angry.
And still, she didn't stop. It mattered too much to her for her to allow her negative emotions about it to get in her way. She wasn't sure even which way she wanted it to be, for him to be the captain with the hook and be here or for it not to be him and for her to once again lose him. It was a tough call, having to risk seeing him and her heart breaking all over again.
She was about to give up hope at about the sixth row, only a few left, when she thought she recognized the coloring on a certain vessel. She ran to it, only to be disappointed. It wasn't dark enough, the lines were wrong, Attina came up with a million reasons why it was the wrong ship before sighing and walking down the next row, her head down, hiding from anyone who might decide to come about. If anyone asked, she'd just say she was on a walk, that the ocean calmed her but that the beach made her sad. Anyone who knew who she was wouldn't question it. She figured anyone who didn't know who she was wouldn't care enough to. She was soon down to the last row, and feeling very down on herself. She chose to savor the feeling, to wait it out, and sat on a bench to listen to the waves and calm her nerves a little instead of immediately disappointing herself. She felt that she should have just known better, that her captain wasn't as dumb as she was to get stuck in this realm unable to go home the way that she had been.
She finally mustered up the courage to at least finish the task and took a slow, halfhearted walk down that particular dock. At the end of it, as her luck would have it, was the famous Jolly Roger, once known the Jewel of the Realm. She stood in awe a moment, just staring at the ship she had basically considered home once. The emotions seeing this vessel caused her were a mixture of shock, joy, sadness, nerves, and anger. It was her captain, certainly. She hadn't seen him, but she had found the ship. She took one last look at it before shaking her head, taking a deep breath, and turning quickly on her heel, fully prepared to sprint all the way home to hide. This plan, unfortunately, was changed by her turning and walking directly into another person.
"I'm so sorry, that was entirely my fault, please forgive me," she said automatically as she turned to meet the eyes of the person she had run into.
Ooc: Sorry about the quality of this, I wasn't sure what to do to start or where to go with it. I may have rambled on a bit also, sorry for that too. Also sorry for the delay!
Killian still couldn’t wrap his head around his visit to the past with Emma or more of the fact how he felt after the trip. He could feel his feelings for Emma grow, yet when they had kissed once they returned something inside the pirate didn’t feel right. The moment his lips pressed against Emma memories he had long since buried started to resurface. He had remembered another time that the feelings he tried so hard to burry had appeared, only difference was Killian had chased away the woman instead of trying to be the man he had thought died many years ago.
Ever since that night he had been thinking about his mermaid, the one he had captured to sell to the highest bidder. Only problem was Killian couldn’t find it in his heart to sell her, he had always come up with an excuse saying the price offered wasn’t good enough or the man had insulted him. In the past he had been so focused on revenge he saw her as a distraction, how could he get his crocodile if he was focused on her. He hadn’t allowed himself to fall in love again, that part of him had died many years ago. He hadn’t been willing to admit that there was still part of his heart looking for love. Meeting Emma had changed that; he had wanted to be a better man for her. He had even traded his ship for her.
Killlian shook his head as he walked down Main Street, why all of a sudden was his mermaid stuck in his head. He should be focused on Emma yet his heart only wanted to focus on the woman he had chased away many years ago. When he thought about Emma he didn’t get those feelings that he had been feeling for so long.
The pirates mind was stuck on that damn mermaid, although truthfully he had blocked her from his memory for so long he could have walked past her many times and not thought twice about it. He had been so focused on his revenge then on Emma. Every time he passed someone he looked at faces as if he was going to find her. Rolling his eyes Killian sighed, she was a mermaid there was a very high chance she hadn’t even been taken by the curse. Ariel hadn’t been taken by the curse, the mermaid other mermaid he had betrayed. The Pirate stopped leaning against the Library as he let his thoughts run through his head, his eyes were still focused on the people walking by. He reached into his jacket and pulled out a flask, there was only one way this pirate knew to clear his head and that was with Rum.
He made his way to the docks, back to his jolly jodger the one place he could call home. Killian narrowed his eyes as he felt another body crash into his, he had been so lost in thought he hadn’t even seen her coming. Her voice was the first thing that seemed familiar, than his eyes focused in on her face. His eyes narrowed, was it her? He had just been thinking about that mermaid from so many years ago… how was it that she was here crashing into him. “Aye, usually one doesn’t run into a non moving target”.
He didn't recognize the young woman who had bumped into him. It had been so many years since the last time he laid eyes on his mermaid. The last night they were together he had held a sword at her throat telling her to get off his ship or he would kill her.
Killian looked down at the young woman in front of him. His eyes locked on hers and he cocked his head to the side. Her eyes seemed so familiar. During that moment he allowed his eyes to focus on her features thats when memories started to come rushing back. She had been his prisoner… the only one he had ever set free. “Do I know you?” .

my jolly sailor bold,
“Aye, usually one doesn’t run into a non moving target” Attina fully felt the weight of her stupidity when her eyes locked with the very man she was turning to run away from, or to, or from, she wasn't even sure what it was she was doing any more. Her skin felt electrified, shocked by his body being against hers even if for only a minute. That accent, that low voice so familiar to her ears. She breathed in deeply, like she couldn't get enough air. Her stomach churned at the sound of his voice and she quickly took a step back to place some distance between them.
"Like I said, I'm very sorry." she answered honestly, eyes widened slightly as she looked up at him. His features were still the same, engraved into her memories like a brand. She perfected her posture, dipping her head slightly to him as if to say goodbye and going to step around him but stopped in her tracks when his voice made its way once more into her ears. Did she mean it? Was she truly sorry to have gotten to see him again? Those were the questions running through her head. It was so hard to tell, even inside her own mind. She was sorry for the pain it caused her, but she wasn't sorry for the butterflies that came to life in the depths of her abdomen.
“Do I know you?” Her head was still dipped to him but as soon as the weight of the question hit her it shot up so she could stare into his eyes. Did he? It had been decades since the last time they had seen one another, like another lifetime since the time she had been on his boat. Only now was she getting her family back, her sanity back. Did she even know herself? The question was so heavy, so unanswerable.
If Attina had learned anything from the pirate, it was to lie. For so long he had lied to her, she thought it only fair to return the favor now. "I don't believe you do. I'm not exactly from around her." she answered, fake smile playing on her lips but her eyes bright as her heart pounded hard within her chest. She wasn't a good liar, but at least she could convince herself that it was the truth. A part of her hurt that if nothing else he couldn't even remember the girl she had been but she was raised better than to show that to him, raised better than to be the type of person to wear her true emotions on her sleeve. She had once and the man who stood before her had taken advantage of that.
"I'm sorry, I'm..." her words trailed off. Common courtesy dictated that she should introduce herself but how could she? In this land was she Ava or Attina now that the curse had been broken? Was she Ms. Edwards who owned the boutique on Main Street or Princess Attina, Heir of Atlantica? It was hard to tell. "Sorry, I guess I'm not really sure who I am now, with the curse and all. I was Ava, but before that I was someone else entirely. I'm not sure who it is I'm introducing you to, Mister...?" she allowed her voice to trail off as she raised a brow expectantly at him.
So far, she was playing the situation off better than she ever could have expected herself to. She was lying, though she was sure he could see right through it. But did he care enough to notice? Additionally, she had found a way out of giving him the name he had once known. Now all she had to do was hear his name, say sorry again and it was nice to meet him, and run as far away from both him and his blood ship as she could. Could it be that easy? With Killian Jones, was it ever?
There was a plea from the back of her mind for him to remember her, a part of her psyche begging for him to have cared as much for her as she had him, but she knew that wad futile. She was better than that childish dream. She was the future Queen of Atlantica and she couldn't keep playing through the dreams she had once had, one that could have cost her the entirety of her kingdom and claim to the throne. Hadn't the knife he had held to her skin been enough for her to realize? Killian Jones wasn't the hero she thought he could be. He wasn't the man who could change, who she could change. He was a villain and she had to remember that.
His eyes narrowed as he looked at the young woman in front of him, so familiar… her face was like something from a dream… something from a very distant past. She couldn’t be that mermaid right? He hadn’t ever noticed her around town and he had been here for a while… wouldn’t he have seen her? It couldn’t be her… his head tilted to the side. So far she hadn’t given away and kind of signs that she knew him… maybe he was wrong after all his past with her was so very long ago. “It’s alright love” it wasn’t the first time someone distracted bumped into him and it probably wouldn’t be the last.
A small laugh escaped his lips as she said she wasn’t from around here “Ah, I don’t think any of us are from around here” he teased, although there was something in her eyes… was she lying to him? He filtered through his mind trying to pull up memories from the past, a past he had tried very hard to lock away. She could just look similar to the young mermaid and his mind was playing tricks on him, after all his memory wasn’t what it used to be. He pressed his lips together in a firm line, he wasn’t sure what to think and he knew he wouldn’t be too happy if this woman was lying to him. He may have been a liar in his past but he still didn’t like when others lied to him.
“I think a whole lot of people around here feel the same way” his expression softened, he had never lost his memories so he didn’t really have to different lives. The pirate could only relate in the aspect of being Captain Hook or Killian Jones. Captain Hook had for the most part been a wicked man; he hadn’t cared about much besides his revenge. He had cut down anyone who got in his way and hurt even more… his mermaid had been one of those. He had started to notice himself caring more and more about her and less about his revenge so he had to make a decision. His revenge or the woman he was falling in love for. Years ago though the thought of finding someone else to love was such a foreign concept that he hadn’t even recognized those feelings. Then there was Killian Jones, the man who cared about others, the man who was actually a good hearted man. Emma had shown him he wasn’t as evil and dark hearted as many thought… even himself. To this day though he still struggled with who he was Hook or Killian? “I never lost my memories” He said with a shrug “So I guess I can’t relate” it would be too much to go into how he did relate to this woman he had just bumped into.
His hand reached down and picked up her hand and he laid a kiss on her hand and let his devlish smile form on his lips once more. “Ava… or whomever you are it’s good to meet you, Killian… Killian JO=ones” He nodded his head “Or better known as Captain Hook” His eyes locked with hers once more, once again his heart jumped in his chest, he could swear he had looked into these eyes once before… not once many times before. “Are you sure we don’t know each other?”

my jolly sailor bold,
Killian’s eyes roamed her face and it took everything within Attina not to look away. Might he remember her? Did that mean anything? More importantly, did she hope he did and that it would? It was all a mess in her mind and mentally Attina was screaming at herself for ever thinking this was a good idea. If only she had her tail back she would have already thrown herself into the sea and hoped his memory of her had been long forgotten.
His head tilted to the side as he continued to look at her, a look Attina deciphered as inquisitive upon his face. “It’s alright love.” he said at least and the first sign of any memory between the pair of them showed in her eyes, at the slight widening at the memory of the last time he’d called her that, in the quickly blinking to cover it up, in the forced smile just after. Her eyes found the ground as she moved her hand to tuck a rogue strand of hair back behind her ear.
He laughed and Attina’s lips pursed on their own. There was no mistaking this was the man she had dreamt of, the man she had known a lifetime before. She looked up at him as his voice reached her ears. “Ah, I don’t think any of us are from around here,” he teased and she nodded, a light laugh given in response. “So it seems,” she agreed. His eyes stayed on her and in an instant her heart was racing. ‘He knows!’ Her mind screamed at her. ‘He knows who you are!’ But how could he? Memories were such fickle things and he proved when he threw her away that she was nothing to him. Didn’t he?
She was brought out of her thoughts by his voice once again. “I think a whole lot of people around here feel the same way.” His expression softened and she watched, perplexed. This was not the captain she remembered. This was the man she had once seen buried beneath, shared with her alone that night. Attina’s mind screamed at her to get a grip but her heart was saying something else. Truth be told, she was pulled in two very different directions, both seemingly alluring with the man just before her.
“I never lost my memories.” Attina’s head tilted automatically, staring at him. He had never forgotten? He had never been given a new life, a new name, had everything he was stripped away and replaced by something that better fit into this new world? “So I guess I can’t relate.” Before Attina could stop it, the words were out. She’d always been a naturally curious girl, if not as much so as her little sister Ariel, and with it came questions. “Then how are you here?” Her brows furrowed on their own, her eyes searching his. She knew as soon as she’d said it that she’d given too much away, been too much of the girl she had been, and a blush found her cheeks at her audacity. “Sorry. That’s really none of my business,” She breathed, her hand nervously reaching to brush back her hair again, an old formed habit to cope with nerves.
When his flesh met with her own, her body felt as if it had been set on fire and her eyes were locked on his for the entirety of the time he held her hand in his. It would give too much away if she reacted on instinct and ripped her hand from his grasp so she was stuck just watching as his lips met the skin on the back of her hand and a sly grin came upon his face. “Ava…” She was well aware of how wonderful it felt to hear that name, one she had become so accustomed to, on his tongue. “or whomever you are it’s good to meet you. Killian… Killian Jones.” He nodded his head and she smiled, all too enchanted once again. “Or better known as Captain Hook.” All too soon she realized she had been waiting for the other shoe to drop and there it was, the slight fault in her smile and the flash of upset in her eyes, eyes his own were locked on.
“Are you sure we don’t know each other?” She laughed nervously, pink tongue darting out to wet her lips. “I’ve never met Killian Jones,” she said, a half-truth all things considered. She took a deep breath before exhaling and smiling as best she could at him. “But I’ve encountered Captain Hook.” Her eyes searched his for a moment before she gave a curt nod. “I should probably go. I don’t want to hold you up from a busy day of throwing mermaids back to sea or whatever you do nowadays.” And there it was, the admission. But would he know? Would he remember?
"It’s fine love” He reached behind his head and scratched the base of his skull, a small chuckle escaping his lips “Believe it or not I haven’t always been such a charming chap” He had originally come here with Cora, Regina’s mother. He was supposed to help her instead he fell for the Savior and ended up jumping ship. “Came here with the Evil Queen’s mother to cause some trouble” Part of him still didn’t believe it… he had somehow gone from villain to hero something he would have never thought possible. He hadn’t even thought about anything else since before his brother died, since before the kind innocent young man turned into a cruel pirate. “So while everyone was cursed here in Storybrooke I was back in the Enchanted Forest protected by one of Cora’s spells” shrugging he let his hand once again drop to his side “So I avoided this lovely place for quite some time”
His eyes stayed locked on hers, he felt drawn to this young woman even more than he had been drawn to Emma, and how had she hooked his attention with only a few words… with only a look. There was something about those yes, the eyes he had grown accustom to seeing each and every night for so long on his ship. He had locked away the memories of the young mermaid who had somehow wormed her way into his and the crews’ hearts. She was basically part of the crew; Killian had almost given up on his revenge just so he could keep her aboard his ship. Though that wasn’t how things played out he had to make a choice… and he chose his revenge… he had chosen to send her back to her home, a place she would be safe… a pirate ship was no place for a young innocent mermaid. He didn’t want to admit it but it would have killed him if he had been the one that had taken away that gentle heart and a pirate ship was a place where gentle hearts went to die.
When he mentioned he was Captain Hook he noticed her demeanor change, gone went her gentle apology face and then came…was that anger? Why was there so much anger, well of course Captain Hook wasn’t the kind of man who usually brought big smiles to the faces of many. She mentioned not knowing Killian Jones and he frowned… then why was she acting so bloody strange? He raised an eyebrow when she said that she had encountered Captain Hook… oh boy. He had done so much too so many he wasn’t even sure what he had done to her.
She turned away and out came the words that almost caused his heart to stop. Throwing mermaids back to sea… he had only done that to her… his mermaid. It was if the air was stolen from his lungs and for the first time the pirate was stunned, he didn’t move a muscle or make a sound. He wasn’t imaging it… she was truly the one he had forced to the sea. The girl he was so mean to, the woman he had told he never loved, that she had just been aboard the ship to pass the time. Shaking his head Killian snapped out of his daze and stepped forward grabbing onto her arm and turning her around. “Attina” He said under his breath, after all these years he had never forgotten her name… even though he tried he had never forgotten her name. “It can’t be”

my jolly sailor bold,
Attina watched the man she had once known in what felt like another life as he reacted to her question. "It’s fine love.” He said with a slight laugh. “Believe it or not I haven’t always been such a charming chap.” Attina could believe it, a wry smile coming to her lips before she pursed them to mask the automatic reaction. “Came here with the Evil Queen’s mother to cause some trouble. So while everyone was cursed here in Storybrooke I was back in the Enchanted Forest protected by one of Cora’s spells. So I avoided this lovely place for quite some time.” Attina nodded slowly, looking to the ground before meeting his eyes again. She wanted to ask what had changed but she thought better of it. “I see,” she replied lamely, watching him with an eager curiosity she could somehow not contain.
His eyes stayed on her and she thought her skull might light on flame with the way he bore into her. Their discussion continued but Attina could feel her skin burning as his eyes stayed on her. Why did he not look away? Did he know? The worry would be gone soon enough but it was at the forefront of her mind the entirety of their conversation. She knew he could see the change in her expression when he said the name she knew him by and Attina suddenly realized she wanted him to remember her. She wanted him to know. If she had to live with those memories day after day, so should he. Still, she bided her time before the response met his ear.
“Attina.” It came out in what sounded like a breath to her ears. “It can’t be.” She opened her eyes, meeting his own. “I assure you it can, Captain Hook.” The emphasis on his title came out harsher than she had intended as she gently pulled herself from his grasp, smoothing her skirt a moment before looking back up at him. “I’m surprised you remember me, Captain.” There was an edge just under her voice but she allowed no inflection this time, nothing that might give her away. Had she made such an impression? Or was it just that he regretted not cashing in on his catch?
Both times she addressed him it was formal, cold. She couldn't bring herself to call him Killian, to call him anything but what she had known him as - The Captain, The man in control of her well being, the man who tossed her aside. Still, there was something inside of her that wondered if he had thought of her as she had him, if he remembered that night... And yet still there was a bigger part that begged her not to remember it, not to think of it, because thinking of that night required her to remember not only what he had taken away from her before then but what he had done shortly after.
Sorry I disappeared for a while! Anastasia is officially done and I am back, had some IRL mishaps but hope to write with all of you guys soon <3.
