We're glad you've stopped by - whether it's to advertise or peek around! We've got a really great group of friendly writers, eager to plot with you! Along with the OUAT canons we have available, we accept characters from major Disney animated films, fairy tales, and folk tales.
Shea's face immediately fell at the mention of “real” information. The oracle who'd fallen quiet for a while suddenly clamored for attention cackling cruelly in her mind. “See? Even he doesn't get it.” “That's not fair.” She was careful to think rather than say the words, lest she clue Dad into how upset she really was. “He can be careless with his words like anyone can be. He doesn't understand.” “Of course he doesn't. Isn't that precisely the point? I'll give you that he's more sympathetic towards you than any you've known even sweet; but, he still can't accept what you are, not fully. He gave you permission to search, to know him intimately. But we both know he did not comprehend what that meant. And if he knew how much of that you grasped, held onto even now, he'd be disturbed.”
“What do you want?” Shea was in no mood for this. She was still on pins and needles from everything that had transpired at school and for some of the less pleasant aspects of the conversation with her father. And she still couldn't entirely believe she never had to go back to that wretched place that day by day, hour by hour, and minute by minute broke her heart and sucked out piece by pitiful piece of whatever a seer had that could constitute a soul.
The oracle patted Shea's head in a patronizing way. “Now why do you ask questions you already know the answer to?”
“I don't...I don't have the faintest idea...”
“Really? Are you in the mood for games today?" she asked with a grin the devil himself would be proud of. “I help you. You wouldn't be here without me.” “You rip me apart, tear me down.”
“I make you see reason, force you to acknowledge things you'd otherwise shy away from. You're not the best at dealing with your problems. Or haven't you noticed?' the oracle questioned with a devious smile.
“What part of this is helping?!” Shea demanded, scared as much as she was angry.
“You expect too much of him. You nearly idolize him.” “I don't! I love him for his flaws as much as his strengths!” “I said nearly. But you're not honest about how he sees you or what you should presume from him.”
“And what exactly does that mean?” she thought coldly. “You're like the hat.” “You know the hat was sentient; and, he loved his hat!”
“Yes. But for someone who so longs to be human you don't grasp that he already doesn't see you as one despite his soothing words. And whether you should bother with your little humanity pet project is another issue entirely. We'll table that discussion for another time.”
“You are you,” she mentally repeated. It was easier for Shea to focus on the earlier words rather than the current ones. Less painful. She didn't want to believe that her father couldn't see her as fully human even if that made the most sense.
The oracle nodded her head. “Exactly. Human or not, it shouldn't matter. And if it does, you'll never find the answer if you're so fearful of it. There are options. You haven't taken them. You haven't talked to the good doctor. You practice your powers daily which is commendable. But the one thing you avoid above all else is divining about the seer nature itself, the history of the power, of what you truly are.”
“I'm not avoiding that! It's difficult to divine so specifically!”
The oracle just possessively stroked her hair. “I'm in your head, dear. There's really no point in lying.”
Shea just wanted to cry. Real information...Just because it was confined to her, restricted in thoughts of others she shouldn't be able to know or feelings and sensations no one else possessed didn't make it less real! How hard had the church fought against Galileo? But in the end, he was right and everyone else was wrong like during the curse. The seer hadn't been the truly mad one. Not there or the thousand other catastrophes where they'd refused to heed her warning.
“Yes, you really do need to stop bothering with them. They hurt you and you thank them for it, whispering words of wisdom they are not entitled to hear.”
“They are mine to give.”
The oracle nodded. “It is your right. But your gifts are wasted on those who revile you, those who would squander the means of their own pitiful salvation.”
Real information...It was real...Every bit of it. Wasn't it?! She wasn't crazy! It was just...Difficult to shake the general consensus at moments, especially when she'd been confined in a psyche ward and drugged repeatedly because of it. Even after the curse shattered, it was tougher to push aside questions of insanity. There were false memories but real experiences and magically constructed or not, another identity whirling inside her. “You shouldn't let him upset you. He too is ignorant.” “Shut up! Just please shut up!” She'd just...Try to focus on what else Dad was saying. He hadn't meant it! He couldn't!
Shea offered a shaky smile as he explained her found her useful, still horribly distraught about the casual comment of “real” information. And she worried that she wasn't actually useful. He spoke of her being useful to help him be more useful to her. So if she wasn't there...It wasn't like he'd be missing anything.
The half laugh and soft smile did soothe her nerves somewhat. But the word real just continued to pound in her ears.
She merely nodded her head at Dad's insistence that she be careful with Regina.
The oracle burst into malevolent laughter at that. “Oh yes, seer! Be very very careful!” The glee evaporated in the span of an eye roll. “You have no magical defense. She was one of the most powerful sorcerers in the Enchanted Forest. She knows you're a seer and is interested in your prophecies. But as long as you're careful well then...Everything will turn out just fine!”
“My mother wronged him,” she said softly. “And I carry her blood. I wouldn't blame him if he were cruel.”
“The sign of a weak heart. You let them hurt you, blame you for things which are not your fault or your doing.”
“Please just shut up!” she shouted, so distressed she actually did yell out loud, clamping her hands over her ears even though she knew that would do her no good. The oracle was forever trapped in her head. Even during the curse the seer was not free of her. The oracle could not so easily be ignored or banished.
